Civic Engagement and Legislative Action

Lahaina residents have a right to shape the policies that govern their own recovery. Lahaina Strong makes sure they have the training, platform, and presence to do it.

From Maui County Council chambers to the Hawaii State Legislature, we organize residents to testify, advocate, and hold decision-makers accountable. We fight for policies that protect residents from speculative land grabs, phase out exploitative short-term rentals, and prioritize affordable housing in the rebuild.

Our organizing helped pass historic legislation phasing out short-term vacation rentals in West Maui, signed into law in December 2025. That win took years of showing up, mobilizing families, and refusing to let the political process move without Lahaina's voice at the center.

We also train residents to engage with the legislative process directly, turning grief and anger into organized, effective political action.
